  • Accreditation only permits entry to the life-base area.It is not a parking permit and does not authorise accompanying the runner on the course or entering other aid stations.
  • Specific results and checkpoint links will be published closer to the race.An area on the homepage is planned for following the event live; this is not missing operational information to publish now.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT (0)

For comfort and prevention, consider sunscreen, anti-chafing cream, a small first-aid kit and some cash for contingencies.

For the UTME 120K, you can leave a change of dry clothes in your life-base bag.

Depending on the forecast, consider a jacket offering extra wind and heavy-rain protection, as well as poles where permitted by the regulations.

These recommendations do not replace the mandatory or conditional equipment for your race.

Conditional equipment: may be required by the organisers depending on the weather, schedule, route or risk assessment, with prior notice.

Recommended equipment: advised, but not generally mandatory.

Equipment checks may take place at the start, on the course or at the finish.

ADDITIONAL RULES AND GUIDANCEOpen for safety, support and regulations details.

PERSONAL UTENSILS

For the UTME 120K, a reusable cup, a reusable container for soup and the main meal, a spoon and a fork are mandatory.

The meal will be served in the UTM Village in Amarante.

The same container may be used for both soup and the meal.

The organisers do not supply cups, plates, bowls, containers or cutlery at aid stations or for the final meal.

Each runner must bring their own utensils.

Check the race-specific equipment list for the applicable requirements.

RACE NUTRITION AND HYDRATION

The race is semi-self-sufficient: plan your food and hydration between aid stations and carry the minimum water reserve specified for your distance in the equipment list.

An emergency food reserve is mandatory for this distance.

All runners must carry a reusable cup.

Food and drinks at aid stations are for registered runners in the race only, not their companions.

The availability of individual products may vary during the race.

Withdrawal and collection

The races are semi-self-sufficient.

Each runner must prepare equipment, food and hydration for the sectors and continually assess their condition and ability to proceed.

Collection following voluntary withdrawal is provided at officially authorised aid stations while operational and within their cut-off times, under the organisers’ transport plan.

Tell the official, confirm that withdrawal is recorded and remain contactable unless unable to do so.

Transport is not immediate and the wait may last several hours.

If you need to return to the previous aid station, do so only if it remains operational and you can return safely.

If it is closed or returning is unsafe, contact race command using the SOS numbers on your bib and follow instructions.

If you voluntarily withdraw outside those stations, you must notify race command using the SOS contacts on your bib.

You arrange transport by your own means and at your expense; the organisers do not arrange it or cover its costs.

This does not exclude duties of assistance, rescue and evacuation in a medical or safety emergency.

Ordinary fatigue alone does not guarantee collection outside aid stations.

Report injury, illness, suspected medical conditions or danger using the SOS contacts on your bib; in an emergency, call 112.

The medical team assesses whether you may continue and may order withdrawal.

Evacuation depends on severity, location, accessibility, weather, team safety and available resources; stabilisation and waiting may be necessary.

Immediate evacuation is not guaranteed at every location.

Follow withdrawal orders and do not force progress or return in unsafe conditions.

EXTERNAL SUPPORT AND COMPANIONS

Support from family, friends or teams is permitted only in areas expressly authorised by the organisers and within the applicable limits.

An official aid station is not automatically an authorised external-support area.

Unregistered people must not accompany runners along the course, including after leaving a support area.

Food, poles and other equipment may not be exchanged outside authorised areas, except in an emergency or on the organisers’ instructions.

At the Ansiães life base for UTME 120K, only one supporter per runner may enter, using the accreditation supplied by the organisers; it is not a parking permit.

Aid-station food is reserved for competing runners.

At the Ansiães life base, reserved for UTME 120K, only one supporter is permitted per runner. To enter the life-base area, that person must show the accreditation supplied by the organisers. Accreditation only permits entry to the life-base area. It is not a parking permit and does not authorise accompanying the runner on the course or entering other aid stations.

TREKKING POLES AND EQUIPMENT EXCHANGES

Trekking poles, food or other equipment may only be handed over, received or exchanged in support areas expressly authorised by the organisers, except in emergencies or when instructed by the organisers.

If specific restrictions apply to the exchange of poles or other equipment, runners who start with such equipment must carry it to the designated authorised area.

An official aid station does not automatically permit equipment exchanges.

HEADPHONES AND AUDIO DEVICES

Headphones or audio devices that prevent or substantially reduce awareness of the course surroundings, organisers' instructions, safety warnings or approaching people are prohibited.

Bone-conduction or equivalent devices that leave the ears unobstructed and allow full awareness of the surroundings are permitted, subject to any stricter federation rules or safety instructions.

ACCIDENTS, ASSISTANCE AND RESCUE

In case of an accident, injury or inability to continue safely, stop and request assistance.

In an emergency, you do not need to reach an aid station.

Call 112 when needed and notify the organisers through the designated channels.

Give your bib number, location and medical condition.

Evacuation depends on terrain, weather, access and available resources; it may not be immediate.

INFRINGEMENTS AND PENALTIES

The full table in Article 17 of Annex III provides, among other sanctions, disqualification (DQ) for bib fraud, deliberate course cutting or unauthorised outside assistance that provides an advantage; immediate withdrawal and DQ for continuing beyond a cut-off or contrary to a safety instruction; prohibition from starting until the issue is corrected, or DQ during the race, for missing critical equipment; a 30–60 minute penalty for other missing mandatory items, which must also be corrected; a warning and 15-minute penalty if a bib is not corrected when instructed; and 30–120 minutes for unsporting conduct without serious danger, with possible DQ in serious or repeated cases.

Sanctions depend on the circumstances, race and applicable procedure.

Always consult Article 17 and the following articles.

COURSE, CHECKPOINTS AND TIMING

Runners must follow the official course and pass every applicable checkpoint.

If you take a wrong turn, return to the point where you left the course whenever reasonably possible; do not take shortcuts to regain an advantage.

Missing sufficient evidence of a valid checkpoint passage may result in disqualification (DQ) or did not finish (DNF), depending on the circumstances.

Rankings are determined by official timing and records.

In the event of a technical failure, the organisers may review sufficient alternative official evidence, such as manual checks, video footage or checkpoint reports.

Personal GPS data may help an investigation but does not, on its own, replace official records.

DNF: did not finish or did not complete the course validly.
DQ: disqualification for a rules infringement.
PC: checkpoint.
A valid finish requires completing the full course and all checkpoints within the time limit, without disqualification.

INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS AND AGE CATEGORIES

Each competitive race has separate men's and women's overall rankings, based on official finishing order and time.

Positions are assigned consecutively even when two runners have the same published time; the official records establish their actual order.

UTM age categories are Under-23 (18–22), Senior (23–39), Veteran I (40–49), Veteran II (50–59) and Veteran III (60 and over), with age calculated as at 30 September 2027.

Eligibility for the men's and women's categories and for sanctioned competitions is governed by Article 12 and, where mandatory, the Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) regulations.

TEAM RANKINGS

UTM team rankings are calculated separately for each race and for men's and women's categories.

Each team needs at least three finishers in the same race, registered under the same team name.

Points are added for the team's three highest-placed runners, based on each runner's actual position in the official overall ranking (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.), counting runners without a team and those from other teams.

The lowest total wins.

Ties are resolved by comparing the third scoring runner, then the second and first; if still tied, the team with the lower combined official time of those three runners wins.

A DNF or DQ runner is excluded from the scoring trio and replaced by the next eligible teammate, if any.

Where required, federation team rankings are calculated independently.

NEUTRALISATIONS AND COURSE CHANGES

For safety, weather, instructions from the authorities, course changes or significant operational needs, Race Management may change course sections and cut-off times, notifying runners through available channels.

If a section is neutralised or a race altered, Race Management will determine the fairest technically verifiable ranking method.

A segment or specific ranking may be cancelled where reliable data are insufficient to compare all runners fairly.

Safety and withdrawal instructions must be followed, even if a runner wishes to continue outside the competition.

No automatic time-adjustment method is guaranteed. Decisions depend on official data and the circumstances, in accordance with Articles 3, 4 and 14 of Annex III.

ANTI-DOPING

Substances and methods prohibited under the applicable anti-doping rules are banned.

The organisers cooperate with the competent authorities and may temporarily suspend awards or result validation where an anti-doping test or proceeding is officially notified, in accordance with Article 15 of Annex III.

PROTESTS AND RACE JURY

A directly affected runner may submit a written protest, without a deposit, within two hours of publication of the relevant provisional result.

For incidents unrelated to a result, the deadline is two hours after finishing or withdrawing, under Article 20 of Annex III.

The protest must identify the runner, bib number, facts or decision contested, grounds, requested remedy and available evidence.

Matters governed by the athletics federation follow the FPA's jurisdiction and procedures.

The UTM Jury comprises three members appointed for the case, with impartiality as a guiding principle.

A reasoned decision is communicated as soon as possible and generally within 24 hours of the relevant race closing.

Urgent safety measures may take immediate effect.

Exclusion from future editions requires a reasoned decision and an opportunity for the person concerned to respond, except for urgent interim measures.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND RESPECT FOR THE COURSE

Respect the course markings, official route, trails, private property, wildlife and vegetation.

Do not litter.

Article 17 of Annex III provides for disqualification (DQ) for deliberate littering, prohibited fires or flames and intentional environmental damage, with reporting to the authorities where applicable.

Breaches are assessed according to the rules on proportionality and evidence.

OVERTAKING AND SPORTING CONDUCT

Signal your intention to overtake when trail conditions warrant it.

Overtake only when safe for everyone.

A runner being caught must allow others to pass at the next safe opportunity without putting themselves at risk.

Deliberately blocking another runner or unreasonably refusing a safe overtaking opportunity is prohibited.

Article 17 of Annex III provides a 30-minute penalty for deliberate obstruction, rising to 60–120 minutes or disqualification (DQ) in aggravated cases.

Unsporting conduct without serious danger may incur a 30–120-minute penalty, or DQ in serious or repeated cases.

Violence, threats, sabotage or assault result in DQ and may lead to exclusion from future editions.

MANDATORY WITHDRAWAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Respect medical and safety decisions and cut-off times.

A mandatory withdrawal means you must not continue through that section, even outside the competition.

Follow course markings, do not litter and respect vegetation, animals, property and trails.
